As a Queen's BFA'78 graduate I was thrilled to help organize a BAE/BFA alumni 55th reunion September 13-15 2024. Alongside fellow organizer Brenda Ohngemach BFA'94, and under the leadership of Angela Walsh Noble BFA'02, we created an unforgettable weekend of reconnection and celebration with Fine Art and Fine Art Education alumni from over the past 55 years..
One of our weekend activities was a GOLDEN Just Paint Experience workshop with Sara Robichaud, BFA'95 alumna and Certified Working Artist for GOLDEN Artist Colors.
In the workshop alumni began work on a Legacy Mural focused on the theme of Coming Home to Ontario Hall.
A 60"x 40" canvas was divided into 5"x 5" squares. We experimented with different painting techniques and other applications, creating art within a 5"x5" area. Artists worked on paper while others painted directly on the canvas.
The Legacy Mural was meant to be a collaborative effort begun by Alumni and completed by BFA students.
6 months after the reunion we held a Paint Night for 4th year BFA students to finish the Legacy Mural.
It was a wonderful evening of conversation and creativity.
Students shared ideas, encouraged each other and were dedicated to completing the job.
A true collaboration between Alumni and Students.
We all were impressed with the result.
The finished canvas will be framed and gifted to Queen's to be displayed prominently on campus.
